1. Definition of thermal energy storage
In general, storing energy means storing it during a period when it is abundant or less costly (solar, night-time rates...) in order to use it during a period when it is scarce or more expensive.
Before describing the advantages and disadvantages of storage, we will present the different types of thermal energy storage. Please note that this article does not deal with the storage of fossil or non-fossil chemicals that release their energy during chemical reactions such as combustion.
