2. Technical description of the innovation
Refrigeration machines absorb the energy required to change the phase of a refrigerant at low pressure and therefore low temperature, and release it to the outside environment via condensation at higher pressures. As a result, they require two different pressure levels to operate, and therefore a vapour compression unit, which in a conventional vapour compression machine is the mechanical compressor. Absorption machines use so-called "thermochemical" compression, operating with a mixture of two fluids (an absorbent and a refrigerant), and rely on the fact that the more volatile fluid (the refrigerant) can be separated from the rest of the mixture during the desorption process. The sorbent therefore simply "transports" the refrigerant from low to high pressure in its liquid state. Separation of the refrigerant takes place by supplying heat to the generator, where the refrigerant vapour emerges...
