3. Application to refrigeration systems

The scenarios and risk calculation methods described in the first part of this article reflect a general approach applicable within the framework of environmental protection legislation governing classified installations. They are applicable to industrial facilities containing large quantities of fluids.

For refrigeration systems, the following points should be taken into account:

  • The vast majority of installations where the use of hydrocarbons is potentially interesting are domestic (refrigerators, air conditioners) or commercial. These involve loads of the order of a few tens of grams to a few kilograms, the environmental impact of which is difficult to assess using the methods developed in the first part of this article (scale factor not experimentally validated).
