7. Fields of application

Electrolytic hydrogen is used in processes requiring high purity. Although still underdeveloped, the acid membrane process is particularly attractive, since the hydrogen produced contains only oxygen and water as the main impurities. Applications can be classified according to the hydrogen flow required.

7.1 Flow rates below 500 L/h

Low-power applications (allowing hydrogen flows of up to a few hundred liters per hour) are highly varied. They include, for example, the production of hydrogen and electrolytic oxygen for laboratory applications, jewelry (flashlights), chromatography (hydrogen is used as a carrier gas and fuel for flame detectors), welding and brazing.
