Before discussing and comparing the various methods of electrode manufacture, it is essential to briefly describe and comment on the means by which these electrodes are generally evaluated by the scientific community. These means must make it possible to assess the electrocatalytic activity, stability, faradic efficiency and degradation of electrode materials when subjected to the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) at the cathode:
