Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) ; Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)

Microscopy technique enabling very thin samples to be observed with high angstrom resolution. The composition of the observed sample can also be analyzed on an atomic scale.

In terms of operation, a beam of electrons is transmitted through the sample, and the interactions between the electrons and the sample give rise to radiation which is transcribed into an observable image. This image is in black and white, with different contrasts depending on the quantity of electrons that have passed through the sample.
