The initiative for this design was taken by major facade builders in the 1980s.

• The framework is assembled in modules, generally consisting of one grid (or 2 grids) over one storey (or 2 storeys). The choice of a 1 or 2-storey grid is often made on the basis of transport and handling possibilities in the workshop and on site. Generally speaking, there is a hollow joint between each infill volume.

• Modules are entirely manufactured and assembled in the workshop (including glazing, blinds, etc.). Generally transported to the field by semi-trailer (lowered in the case of 2-frame modules), this requires special wedging and filling to prevent slippage due to vibrations during transport.
