A number of incidents involving attached stone cladding on famous buildings have hit the headlines, casting doubt on the reliability and safety of this type of installation technique.
A case in point is the façade stone of the Grande Arche de la Défense, which used to be Carrara marble. These slabs suffered from granular decohesion for many years before being replaced by granite.
The example of the Opéra Bastille refers us to a stone cladding, with styloliths in this case making the stone brittle, associated with defects in installation. This stone was replaced by another cladding (see 3.2
