12. Window caulking

When the sashes of old wooden windows have too much air leakage, they can be brought back into close contact by overmoulding a strip of silicone sealant as follows:

  • with the window open, clean the area where the silicone sealant will be applied;

  • apply a coat of primer and allow to dry for 20 minutes;

  • apply a bead of translucent silicone sealant to the prepared areas, the thickness of which must be greater than the gap to be filled;

  • Brush on a coat of the release agent supplied by the sealant manufacturer, extending over the sides of the bead;

  • Unroll the plastic release tape supplied and gently apply it to the still-fresh mastic bead;
