4.1.1 General criteria

Mixed wall systems have similar shear strength and shear stiffness to reinforced concrete walls. However, the steel sections forming the periphery of these walls provide a significant increase in flexural strength, which, compared with a reinforced concrete solution, delays the formation of a plastic hinge at the foot of the wall.
