5. Conclusion and outlook

By taking advantage of the most recent advances in knowledge and consideration of seismic risk (definition and representation of the hazard, dynamic behavior of structures under seismic loads, special seismic protection devices, etc.), the new body of legislation and standards, materialized by the publication of national Decrees and Orders and the mandatory application of European Eurocode 8 standards and their national annexes, marks a new turning point in the seismic design and dimensioning of engineering structures. These new national seismic regulations replace the old rules, known as PS92, applied from 1995 onwards, which in turn replaced the first French seismic regulations, known as PS69, applied from 1975 onwards.
