1.1 Definitions and comments

Tensegrity systems are a subclass of self-constrained cross-linked systems [IN 19] .

Their structural composition is quite singular: it involves the presence of simply compressed components within a set of simply tensioned components.

Example

The composition shown in figure 1 comprises two compressed components, each obtained by assembling four rectilinear elements. These two components are linked by a continuous network of tensioned elements (in this case, sixteen elements)....
