2. The emergence of composite pavements
2.1 First signs of concrete/bituminous bonding
On the A6 freeway, core sampling to check the thickness and positioning of the reinforcement, carried out in 1985, showed that the concrete adhered perfectly to the surface dressing. The same observation was made at the same time, during the first reconstruction of the slow lane of the A6 North freeway in continuous reinforced concrete (23 cm of BAC laid on 5 cm of bituminous mix).
In 1986, this bonding system was partially taken into account for the first time, when designing the reconstruction of the slow lane of the Bessey-en-Chaume pass on the A6 freeway. The aim was to combat the rutting of this lane once and for all. After milling 16 cm of bituminous material, 16 cm of continuous reinforced concrete was laid....
