5. Network efficiency
5.1 Definitions
There is no official terminology. We will therefore use a logical vocabulary. To measure the tightness of a network, we compare the volume introduced into the network at the outlet of production plants (disinfection alone or with pumping, more or less complete treatment) or wholesale deliveries from external services, with the volume used in a known way – and generally measured – during the same period. The difference represents distribution losses, and we use various ratios generally referred to and defined as follows.
