4. Some special works
Embankment dikes and vertical dikes are large-scale structures that require substantial facilities and resources. However, other types of structure can sometimes offer an interesting alternative.
4.1 Permeable vertical dikes or fixed water walls
These dikes, generally made up of caissons resting on piles or bars, stop a large part of the swell while allowing water to circulate between the bottom of the caisson and the seabed (figure 29 ).
