6. Elevator installations in existing buildings

Renowned for its contemporary grafts on heritage buildings, one example is the suspended staircase at the Castello di Rivoli near Turin, designed by architect Andrea Bruno. These feature steel stringers supporting prefabricated steps, the principle of which is illustrated in figure 65 .
These staircases are made up of mixed flights attached to the reinforced concrete structure of the elevator on one side, and suspended from 45 mm-diameter steel tie rods on the other. The stringers and landings are made up of IPE 240 sections on which the landing slabs and prefabricated flights are laid, once the staircase framework has been assembled.
