1. Pathology of masonry walls

The disorders that can affect masonry structures can be classified into two categories, depending on whether they result from a defect in the mechanical strength of the structure, or whether they affect the other functions of the masonry wall but do not call into question the solidity of the structure.

1.1 Defects due to a lack of mechanical strength in the masonry

Based on an analysis of a number of accidents that have occurred in load-bearing masonry construction, we can identify the causes and enumerate them in order to draw out a few tips that designers and site supervisors should bear in mind in order to prevent such accidents from recurring.
