A common conservation practice for 19th-century cast-iron and iron heritage, but also for 20th-century steel structures, the repair of these structures is mainly concerned with the specific problems of fracture and corrosion.
Apart from these problems, generally caused by lack of maintenance and the ravages of time, steel has the particularity of being able to be used to repair other pathologies of the steel itself, such as wear and fatigue, but also to repair constructions made with other materials, such as masonry or wooden structures.
It is also suitable for more contemporary materials such as reinforced or prestressed concrete and glued-laminated wood.
