8. Incorrect use and maintenance

8.1 Unforeseen expenses

  • Underestimated permanent loads

    Frequently, the thicknesses of masonry, slabs and screeds, set a priori before construction, are considerably increased during the course of the work. As a result, permanent loads are much higher than anticipated. This underestimation can have serious consequences when the building is loaded.

  • Underestimated operating overloads

    They can be the cause of excessive deformation or even breakage, due to the user's ignorance of the admissible load. A case in point is the storage of archives (loads of up to 10 kN /m 2 ) on floors not designed for this purpose....
