We need to distinguish between exposure outdoors, which is not very dangerous due to the low concentration of this gas in the air, and exposure inside a poorly ventilated building, where the concentration of the gas can present a health risk.

Radon is characterized by its concentration in air, expressed in becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m 3 ). One becquerel corresponds to one disintegration per second.

Concentration varies widely according to time and place. The risk of radon-related cancer is proportional to exposure time and radon concentration.

Measurements taken in the field reveal very different levels of radiation depending on weather conditions, soil type, time of day and month.
