3. Eurocodes
Eurocodes are the European reference standards for the design, dimensioning and justification of building and civil engineering structures. They aim to harmonize practices within the European Union, thus guaranteeing consistency in terms of the safety, durability and performance of structures across the different member countries.
Adopted in 2005 as European standards (EN), the Eurocodes have gradually replaced the old national standards, such as BAEL for concrete or CM66 for steel construction. Their development initially went through an experimental phase under the status ENV (provisional European standard), but today they are fully integrated into professional practice.
