3. Efficiency of condensing boilers

3.1 High yields

The condensing boiler uses not only the lower calorific value (LHV) of a fuel, but also its higher calorific value (HCV).

For efficiency calculations, French and European standards use ICP as the reference.

Lower calorific value and higher calorific value

The net calorific value (NCV) indicates the amount of heat that can be produced with a given quantity of fuel (solid, liquid or gaseous). With this reference value, combustion products are available in gaseous form. The gross calorific value (GCV) includes, in relation to the net calorific value (NCV), a percentage of additional energy in the form of heat by condensation of water vapor, known as "latent heat".
