2.1 Imposed voltage

Why impose voltage for DC transmission? First of all, the idea came naturally to electricians who, as early as the 19th century, had been using near-constant DC voltage sources: batteries, accumulators, dynamos...

The physical law is more imperative. Consider a generator with electromotive force E, internal resistance r, output voltage U, and current I. We write that :

U=E−rI( 1 )
P=UI=EI−rI2
