4. Dimensioning elements
Sizing consists in defining the values of a device's characteristic quantities, so that it plays its proper role in a given environment. The role to be played by the device in question is generally formulated in the form of constraints set out in a set of specifications. In addition to containing constraints on the device's functional characteristics, the specifications often impose cost and time limitations on the designers.
