4. Dimensioning elements

Sizing consists in defining the values of a device's characteristic quantities, so that it plays its proper role in a given environment. The role to be played by the device in question is generally formulated in the form of constraints set out in a set of specifications. In addition to containing constraints on the device's functional characteristics, the specifications often impose cost and time limitations on the designers.

In many industrial applications, designers are faced with highly complex dimensioning studies, involving multiphysics modeling, and very tight deadlines. Modeling plays a central role in reducing design lead times. In 4.1
