Symmetrical multi-phase winding; Bobinage polyphasé symétrique

The symmetrical polyphase winding is made up of identical phases that are regularly staggered over the machine's complete mechanical turn.

The u-order supply sequence for an N-phase winding is a sinusoidal supply with an angular offset of u × 2π/N between two consecutive phases.

Winding factor

The winding factor is the ratio of the flux picked up by the actual winding to the flux that would be picked up by a virtual winding with diametral pole pitch and one notch per pole and phase (i.e. the winding maximizing the picked-up flux).
