3. Conclusion

The use of a magnetic coupling represents an elegant solution for transmitting rotary motion through a sealed wall to ensure hermetic isolation between the product to be processed and the drive system. Compared with mechanical couplings, this solution reduces maintenance, as torque transmission is contact-free. Generally speaking, magnetic couplings offer better tolerances to axis misalignment and reduce vibration transmission. The main disadvantage is undoubtedly the higher cost compared with mechanical couplings of the same range, since these devices require the use of rare-earth-based permanent magnets to be efficient.
