Among the operating constraints of electric actuators, the following should be highlighted:

• low mechanical inertia;

• high acceleration (short start-up time);

• high shaft torque immediately available;

• a large thermal time constant ;

• high reliability.

Optimal solutions to these constraints often lead to contradictory technological designs.
