2. Study techniques and characterization tests for liquid breakdown
Fundamental research experiments aim to identify and characterize predisruptive and disruptive phenomena as precisely as possible. To this end, the aim is to obtain as much electrical, optical and acoustic information as possible simultaneously, by varying experimental conditions (pressure, temperature, electrode geometry, etc.) to a large extent. Most often, simple voltage waves are used, in particular voltage pulses with ultra-short rise times and adjustable durations (from a few nanoseconds to several seconds, figure 1 ). Simple liquids (hydrocarbons, liquefied gases) and industrial liquids (mineral oils, synthetic liquids) are being investigated to establish similarities and differences in behavior.
