5. Batteries with lithium metal anode and liquid electrolyte

5.1 First achievements

The first lithium-anode battery on the market dates back to the 1980s. Figure 10 shows an exploded view. The electrodes and separator are spiral-wound thin foils. The anode is lithium metal, the cathode based on molybdenum sulfide, the electrolyte is a solution of LiAsF 6 in propylene carbonate.
