3. Determination of compound systems

3.1 Compounding series

Series compounding requires that the secondary or tertiary windings of current transformers carry a current proportional to the excitation current, and not to their primary current. This implies that they have a significant magnetizing current, the size of which determines the degree of compounding. To achieve this, their magnetic circuit has an air gap 2.4.2
