2. Classic solutions for improving power quality

In most applications, the user only benefits from the energy supplied by active power. This is why it is useful to compensate for reactive and distorting power using appropriate devices, in order to effectively reduce the total energy supplied by the network. In the following, we'll take a closer look at how to compensate for reactive and distorting power. It is important to note that :

  • to improve the power displacement factor DPF, reactive current must be injected ;

  • to improve the power factor PF, reactive current must be injected to increase the DPF, and the distortion factor DF must be increased through harmonic treatment aimed at reducing the harmonic content of the current.
