5. Self-driven synchronous motor

Traction units equipped with synchronous motors are designed exclusively by GEC Alsthom Transport and have been in operation since the end of the 1980s. Among the various rolling stock currently in operation or in the process of being delivered, we would like to mention the following:

  • SNCF network: BB 26000 locomotive, TGV-Atlantique, TGV-Réseau, TGV-Duplex, TGV-Thalys... ;

  • export: TGV Spain, TGV Korea...

5.1 Railway-specific features

For rail traction, we use the three-phase synchronous motor with a wound rotor with salient poles and 3 or 4 pairs of poles, depending on the performance required. The rotor is fitted with a damping circuit.
