Regenerative braking; Freinage par récupération
The braking of a train results in kinetic energy which can be :
dissipated in the form of heat due to friction between mechanical components (brake pads on wheels or brake discs);
or recovered from electric motors operating as generators, whose energy is fed back into the supply line.
