2. Sizing

In the course of their operation, instrument transformers are subject to a number of stresses from their environment, which may be normal (wind) or accidental (earthquakes). These stresses must be taken into account in the design, within standardized or specified limits. The most important of these relate to :

  • isolation;

  • WARM-UP ;

  • resistance to electrodynamic forces ;

  • resistance to external mechanical stress.

2.1 Isolation

  • Insulation (IEC Publication 71) must be designed to cope with three types of stress:
