8. Other capacitor types

In this section, we briefly present a few other types of power capacitors used in electrical networks. Although their manufacture is similar to that of devices designed to improve power factor, we focus on showing how they differ from the units studied above.

8.1 Capacitors for induction heating systems

Capacitors used to power induction furnaces are characterized by the following two points.

  • They are not connected to a network, but to an industrial installation where atmospheric or switching surges are not significant. They are therefore built with a lower safety margin.
