2. Modeling active ingredient particles
Having studied the electrolyte alone, we're now going to concentrate on the particles making up the active electrode material. Of course, the very nature of the electrode material used will condition the particle size distribution that is ultimately generated, in order to satisfy the battery's final requirements in terms of available power and energy.
We shall see, however, that for reasons of model simplification, it may be interesting to consider that all particles have an identical size, which may be the mean value of the particle size distribution obtained experimentally. It's important to remember that lithium-ion battery operation relies on the lithiation and delithiation of the insertion materials chosen to form the positive and negative electrodes.
