1. Single-quadrant step-down chopper

The structural diagram of the single-quadrant step-down chopper is shown in figure 1 .

This chopper uses a transistor-diode pair (T 1 -D 1 ), which periodically connects the voltage source to the inductive load. Energy transits unidirectionally from the voltage source to the load, as indicated by the operating quadrant shown in the plane (V s , I s ) of figure 1 .
