Some specifications introduce a notion of transient overload (e.g. motor start-up) or a particular operating profile (e.g. current variation in a traction inverter as a function of the path taken by the traction vehicle). In the event of an overload, an additional calculation must be carried out to check the impact on junction temperature.

3.1 Notion of thermal impedance

Some data sheets give a thermal impedance curve as shown in figure 36 .
