2. Different converter structures
In parallel with component development, engineers are exploring static converter architectures that make the most of existing or emerging components. At this point in the introduction, the reader can retain an initial classification of converter types (figure 9 ). It's worth pointing out that power electronics terminology includes terms developed since around 1920 (with the first speed controllers for electric motors), some of which may come as a surprise. For example, "inverters" are used to convert DC energy into AC energy.
