RCS (Radar Cross Section) is a quantity (expressed in m 2 ) that characterizes the capacity of an object to reflect the energy of an incident electromagnetic wave. An electromagnetic radar wave arriving on a target (aircraft, missile) interacts with this object, which reflects the incident energy in various directions, including the incident direction. If the receiving radar is also the transmitting radar, we speak of a monostatic or backscatter configuration, otherwise of a bistatic or multistatic configuration.
The incident electromagnetic wave is characterized by various quantities, including its frequency or frequency spectrum, and its polarization (linear, circular or elliptical).
