2. Definitions

These are general definitions of physics applied to the specific nature of field effects on humans.

  • Specific absorption (SA): energy absorbed per unit mass of biological tissue. It is expressed in joules per kilogram (J/kg).

  • Electromagnetic fields: the term "electromagnetic fields", used in this article, includes all fields, whether electric or magnetic, which are components of the electromagnetic field. They cover the entire frequency range, including static fields. These fields are likely to interact, in one way or another, with living organisms, and therefore with humans, subjected to their presence.

  • Far field (Fraunhofer zone): zone at least 1.6 times the wavelength away from the radiating structure; in this zone, the relationships...
