4. Impact of cloud and edge architectures on M2M

As we can expect from the above case, some distributed M2M functions are performed in the network. Generally speaking, this abstraction of the network is called the cloud. However, for performance reasons or to reduce network congestion, a new notion, called "edge" or "Mobile Edge Computing (MEC)", which corresponds to the edge of the network, has been introduced.
