5. Conclusion

This final article in the "Digital Radio" series illustrates the great diversity of systems and distribution platforms, with the wide variety of frequency bands used in terrestrial broadcasting.

Faced with the evolution of digital radio, it remains difficult either to make a bet or to be certain about its success. However, some major trends are emerging:

• the coexistence, in the short and medium term, of analogue + digital broadcasting due to :

  • the very ability of digital systems to be simulcast,

  • the difficulty for industry players and regulators to speed up the transition to digital technology,

  • the choice of digital radio for the quantity of services and programs, sometimes to the detriment of quality;
