3. Main applications and manufacturers of fiber optic sensors

Like diffusion-based distributed sensors, the use of fibered Bragg gratings to measure temperature and axial stress is widespread and highly commercialized. The main field of application for these sensors is in the various fields of structural monitoring, from the most "simple" (mine galleries, earth movements, concrete used in civil engineering, etc.) to the most "technological" (composite materials used in aerospace and aeronautics, etc.). Other sectors, such as metrology in extreme environments (very high or very low temperatures, nuclear...) are also fields of application. Conditional maintenance on large industrial sites and networks (chemicals, petrochemicals, wastewater treatment plants, etc.) is another major field of application.
