4. Addressing
As the above list shows, there are different types of local area networks, either for commercial reasons (one manufacturer or a group of manufacturers decide to push their technology), or for technical reasons (access methods for wireless and wired networks are different). Nevertheless, it's important that all these types of network have the same address format, to facilitate their interconnection and, more generally, their management.
