1. Routing in ad hoc networks

In ad hoc networks, routing is the fundamental technological building block for ensuring network connectivity. Figure 1 shows the topology of such a multi-hop ad hoc network. In such a network, radio nodes are not necessarily in direct range. A packet may therefore have to be relayed by intermediate nodes to reach its final destination.
