2.1 Performance of Reno and NewReno versions

The performance differences between the Reno and NewReno versions of TCP's congestion control algorithms, in terms of loss behavior, are illustrated here. In particular, NewReno, thanks to improvements in the fast retransmit algorithm, avoids unnecessary triggers of the retransmission timer, resulting in larger transmission windows (and therefore higher data rates).
