8. Conclusion

This article first presents the context in which a 2nd generation digital terrestrial television system, DVB-T2, was developed: competition from other distribution systems, increasing production of HD and then UHD images, new video and audio compression formats (HEVC/H.265, Dolby E-AC3). The demanding specifications led to the use of techniques developed, for example, for DVB-S2 for satellite broadcasting (error-correcting detector codes, for example), and to the adoption of other innovative techniques: Physical Layer Pipes, modulation constellation rotation, MISO. The resulting performances have improved transmission capacity (by 30-50%), robustness, service flexibility and transmitter power savings.
