4. Fusion in the theory of belief functions
The theory of belief functions (or Dempster-Shafer theory) dates back to the 1970s, but its use in image fusion is relatively recent. Nevertheless, the first applications are promising, and in this paragraph we show what features of this theory justify our interest in it, both from the point of view of knowledge representation and its imperfections (imprecision, uncertainty, ambiguity, ignorance, conflict) and their combination.
