Practitioners need methods and tools that enable them to diagnose an acoustic situation and prescribe solutions. As we shall see, solving the sound propagation equation with complex boundary conditions is almost never possible, so we have to resort to modelling techniques, all of which have their limitations, but are fortunately extremely useful.
